Photographing Children: Tips and Tricks for the Amateur Artist

Children are always interesting subjects. Their funny ways, innocence, mischievousness and even angry fits make them even more interesting. However, if you are not patient enough, it could be the most stressful experience. Have they tried striking a pose while you were busy fiddling with your camera settings? Depressing right? Children rarely stay in place and some have insatiable energy levels you could end up dog tired even before scholarships for women you can get a decent shot.

Then again, nothing is ever impossible if you know some very basic techniques. If a child won’t smile and pose, don’t worry. If the child won’t cooperate, relax. Take your time and everything will turn out to be fine. Here’s how you can capture their sunshine moments in the most striking ways:

Learn about timing. Strike the iron while it’s hot. So when it comes to children, you’ll get the best pictures while their alive and kicking mostly in the morning or late in the afternoon. Even so, there are kids who are so energetic at home but act like turtles when they’re out with other people. So here, your ability to build rapport is of great value. Talk them through the shoot and they will feel more relaxed. But for those who pull faces at you, go ahead and press that shutter. Nothing is more memorable than a silly pose.

Be a paparazzo. Yes, children are like celebrities – so hard to get. And this is very true in the case of toddlers. So having a camera with zoom lenses will be your edge especially for extremely shy kids. Moreover, you can get many candid shots that can depict the child’s personality. In addition, photographing children is like covering a sports event. For parents, it doesn’t have to be a high-end DSLR. Children are so curious they might what to practice photography and ruin your gadget. A simple setting of the aperture of a good camera does it.

Proper location and mood. Even adults can’t smile properly during their first photo shoot. However, most children are naturals when they are outdoors. So you can bring your subjects to the park or any tria laser hair removal place where they act as kids. Bring the mum and dad to participate. But, explain to them first how you want to work with their kids. They can be your entertainers while you snap photos. Or you can just let the kids hold something to make them feel more at ease.

Clothing. Sometimes, parents get too excited they bring their kids to the studio in costumes forgetting it’s their first time. Have mercy and let the poor souls be themselves. Get to know them first and recommend clothes that suit their personality and taste. Keep it simple. You are to showcase the child not the expensive Dior clothes.

Finally, patience is a real virtue when it comes to photographing kids. So take your time and never force them if they’re not on the mood.  It is ok, to take photos while they’re on a tantrum; but not all the time.
